Cabinet Next Generation (Cabinet NG) is used to manage documents, document versions, document types, and document folders within the CNG operating environment.  In addition, you can use Cabinet NG to search for a document or submit documents -- or entire electronic cabinets and folders -- to an ad hoc Cabinet NG workflow.

Cabinet NG incorporates Eastman Imaging for Windows which is a multifaceted product that lets users transform paper documents and faxes into electronic documents that can be viewed, annotated, edited, converted, printed, and shared.

The Eastman Imaging component of Cabinet Next Generation enables users to scan, view, annotate, manipulate, store, and perform Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on faxes, paper document, and electronic images.

The system mirrors the physical world in that these documents are filed in electronic folders which, in turn, reside in electronic cabinets.  The user can get away from the confusion of trying to keep up with individual DOS files scattered in various directories in which the file names give the only clue about the contents of the files.  The folder documents can be any type:   word processing, scanned images, spreadsheets, text, audio, video, etc.
